“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned.” – 2 Timothy 2:8-9

Few experiences wound the heart more deeply than broken promises. We have all felt that sting when words were forgotten, commitments abandoned, or assurances quietly set aside. A parent’s promise, an employer’s guarantee, a spouse’s vow—when these fail, the result is disappointment, distrust, and sometimes despair. Let it not surprise you when people fail you, for we live in a failing world.

Against that backdrop of unreliable human pledges, the faithfulness of God shines with breathtaking clarity. From the very beginning, the One who is the Alpha and the Omega has declared His purposes and carried them forward through history. God reveals His character by making promises and then keeping them, culminating in the redemption of His people through the coming of His Son.

Jesus Christ stands at the center of those promises. Though He is David’s Lord (Psalm 110:1; Matthew 22:41–46), He also became David’s descendant, fulfilling God’s covenant promise of an everlasting kingdom (2 Samuel 7:16; Revelation 22:16). He is the promised Messiah, the risen Savior, who offers the water of life without cost because He Himself paid the full price of justice. Every prophecy found its “Yes” in Him.

The promises of God are fulfilled in the Person of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 1:18–22). God is always faithful, even when we are not (2 Timothy 2:13). Paul wrote these words from prison, reminding us that while circumstances may bind God’s servants, the word of God is never imprisoned. The risen Christ continues to reign, to save, and to keep every promise He has made.

We find the joy of Christmas by remembering and rejoicing that this Savior is with us always and will never forsake us (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5). This season, slow down and fix your heart on Jesus Christ. Worship Him. Trust Him. Celebrate Him.

After all, Christmas is the celebration of the unshakable truth that God keeps His promises.
